What’s in a Name?

The terms “Sheetrock” and “drywall” are often used interchangeably, but they essentially refer to the same product. Drywall is a construction material used to create walls, ceilings, and design features. Sheetrock, on the other hand, is a brand name for drywall.

Sheetrock has become a common term used to refer to drywall in general, like “Kleenex” for facial tissues. There are other brands of drywall aside from Sheetrock.

In summary, all Sheetrock is drywall, but not all drywall is Sheetrock.

What’s in that Wall?

There are many types of drywall, each with distinct properties. Depending on your environment, we’ll select the right type to install.

Fire-resistant drywall includes additives that inhibit burning. Alternatively, for damp areas, there’s green board – it’s designed to resist moisture, thanks to its oil-based, additive-infused green paper. Another option is blue board, renowned for its resistance to both water and mold.

Drywall isn’t a one-size-fits-all affair. It comes in a range of thicknesses, typically from 1/4” to 3⁄4”.

Other specialized options include sound-canceling and sound transmission drywall, ideal for maintaining calm in your spaces. For more niche needs, there’s even lead-lined drywall, often used for scientific purposes.

What’s in the Drywall Fix?

Here are some ways we can repair your drywall for holes, cracks, and water/mold stains:

  • Repair spray: This product creates a flexible membrane over the stress crack, adapting to the building’s movement. Although this method may not provide a permanent fix, it’s an effective strategy to prolong the longevity of a patch job.
  • Skim-Coating: In this repair method, we apply a thin layer of diluted joint compound over drywall to cover surface imperfections. This procedure creates a smooth, uniform surface, often in preparation for painting. After application and drying, we’ll lightly sand the skim coat to enhance smoothness before finishing.
